Cortinarius kranabetteri Niskanen, Liimat., Harrower, Ammirati & Dima (2021)
Discussion
Cortinarius kranabetteri was named in honor of Marty Kranabetter, fungal ecologist of British Columbia, Canada. It is known from only two collections from Northern BC and Alberta, CA where it is was found in mature conifer or mixed forests with Populus.
A full description may be found in the recent Anomali type paper. Key diagnostic features noted are:
- Cap 30-50 mm diameter, pale yellowish-grey to pale brownish-grey
- Veil pale ochraceous
- Blue tones on gill and stipe apex are not persistant
- Relatively small spores (av. 7 x 6 µm)

Cortinarius kranabetteri is in Section Anomali, /aldipides clade (along with 3 described and one undescribed North American species: C. albidipes, C. perrotensis and C. tetonensis, C.sp 5 (Ref: Dima et al, 2021)
